Before we left on our trip we decided that we wanted to do something for the ocean. Dad found the Organization 5 Gyres online and decided that we should join their Trawlshare program. We signed up for the program and they sent us a Manta Trawl and all the data sheets needed. We have been doing Manta Trawls all down the coast and into the Bahamas, and we have been getting many plastics, especially microplastics. The saddest part for me has been that the most plastics we have been getting has been in the beautiful Bahamas! It is really sad to see so many plastics in such a beautiful paradise! Many people believe that recycling is the solution. Actually, most things that you put in the recycling bin do not get recycled! The only true solution to this plastic problem is to stop using plastics! We need to stop the production of plastics, and that will only happen if everyone refuses to use plastics.
